We Must Walk Before We Run

I imagine that most of us believe that we can just “turn on, tune in, and drop out” when chillin’ in our own casa.  But anyone who has ever tripped over a dog bone lying unattended on the living room floor knows that conscientious walking is just as necessary as conscientious driving.  Sure, the consequences of DWI often outweigh of those WWI (Walking While Inconsiderate), but if you’ve ever witnessed a man walking into another man—one of which, usually the recipient, responds ungraciously—you will understand that walking requires attentive consideration too.

I would say that there are safe spaces to walk—but really, there aren’t.  Park pathways could be idyllic, if it weren’t for bears, MS-13, and bums.  If you’re fortunate enough to have a large backyard garden-maze-thingy, you still have to be attentive of trespassers, bugs, and bums (they’re everywhere these days!).  But I think I’m getting off-topic, so let me recompose.

For the most part, only your ego will be bruised when you’re left begrudgingly staring at that damn insolently elevated kitchen floor as if it were picking a fight.—When will that kitchen floor know its place!  But, I’ve seen bumped heads, sprained wrists, and Mu*****(on TV) from people not being aware of the rules of the walkway and the adaptability that is required for unforeseen variables.

In short, WWI endangers all of us.  In large part, I blame overconfidence: because the feat of walking has been perfectly performed with such ease on so many occasions that we think we need not be attentive to such trivial behavior.  This leads to arrogance and arrogance leads to conflict—and that kitchen floor is not budging.

As the great guru once said, "be here now."

And please: always use consideration while walking.

P.S. Be on the lookout for a future blog post: Laughing While Performing.  Yes, focused attention takes precedence here too! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwGX-zkenzo)
