Finding Calvin Part. 1 - 1 - Sowing Season (Updated 6/10/24)

 As the meeting concluded

And each went back to their work
The Pieman took time to think
And he thought thoroughly
That in order to stay free
He must justify his rhyme schemes
The Pink Fairy and talking to desserts

He'd also have to perform
In order to conform
To what the detectives probably see
So to really make-believe
He changes up the scenery
And buys glasses in blueberry
With sweet complementary polo shirts *

For it's not out of the norm
To want to be adored
In full blown homosexuality
And to really plant the seed
He planned to renege on Charlene
And focus all his energy
On jelly, the business, and his true worth *

Though a pro tem solution
It would help keep him covert
And conceal what's underneath
For with his trickery *
They'd have to truly believe
In multiple identities
To think that such a sweetie could ever murder

[...]

With Mestuffstoplease new look
He began to turn heads
And it only lent credence
To the Caker's continual jest

And that was fine by him
For it's not a matter of pride
It's a back-up plan for a what-if
If the detectives decide to arrive

Though Froster Felicity certainly noticed
She did not say a word
And he was not much of a talker
Unless it involved pastry desserts

But he knew he needed to make a show
To show that he cared
So he decided to plant another seed
To show her that he's there

[Mestuffstoplease]

Have you heard anything about Baker Brian?
I don't want to be rude
But we're going to have to replace him
If we don't hear from him soon

[Froster Felicity]

No, I have no idea what happened to him
He hasn't returned my texts

[Mestuffstoplease]

Okay, well keep me in the loop
I'd hate him to fall victim
To life's miserable truth

[...]

Mestuffstoplease cringes
How could he have said that
Though It was a good rhyme
He'll now have to act fast

[Mestfuffstoplease]

You know you don't know a good thing until it's gone
And the economy can be so brutal
There aren't many places where he can belong
And so many new beginnings wind up as futile

Plus here
We're expanding rapidly
Certainly it will open up positions
And other opportunities

[...]

Froster Felicity gave this look
Like did he really just say that
She was clearly not in the mood
Or ready to engage in some chitchat

[Froster Felicity]

Okay.  I'll let him know

[...]

Mestuffstoplease nods
And swiftly gets back to business
For he felt a surge of inspiration
His glasses made him feel like a genius

At first he couldn't explain it
Without further reflection
On how his mom always felt great
When she added a halter top to her collection

For his mother had great shoulders
And a back other women respected
It was probably from hoisting milk pails
And shoveling cow manure on their farmstead

Clearly she turned heads
Though she didn't seek attention
She knew that she belonged
And would be valued with every mention

Perhaps that's what he wants
To avoid a sense of exclusion
For though others were in the room
He wasn't part of their confusion

So he had uncertainty
Though he ensured his own doing
He never knew what others thought
If he was worthy of their approving

But now with his new glasses
He felt assured of his status and state
That he is the Jelly Man
And the maker of pies, pastries, and cakes

But amid his self-absorption
The Chef subtly creeps up behind
And informs him that they'll be interviewing
And they'll want his appraisal of who they find

[Chef]

We'll be interviewing to fill the void
And we don't want a Baker Brian
So we'll be interviewing as a team
To see if anything is worth finding

[Mestuffstoplease]

Sounds good

[...]

And it did sound good
For he was a control freak
But it was a sickness
That every business truly needs

For though a burden
In the days of learning
It becomes a dolly
In the days of maturity

For from his obsession
He has noticed many things
Like how to order the day
And handle obscurities

For like an unraveling
In a woven landscape
Going with the flow
Leads to incongruity *

But with just a little foresight
And controlled burning
One can keep the fray away
And wrong seeds from emerging

So he has learned to welcome
Added responsibility
As long as he's prepared
Fed and gets adequate sun and sleep

But it is another time
And opportunity
To control the yes or no
And determine what's to be

[Charlene]

Hey sweetie
I haven't seen you in a while
How have you been

[...]

Mestuffstuffstoplease was surprised
Too focused on his latest creation
It would be the last one in line
For his mass produced jelly collection

But his transition would be fine
In handling this due certainty
For he has a new frame of mind
And calculated ambiguity

[Calvin]

Oh hey Charlene
You look nice today
Are you here for your niece
Can I fetch you a cake

[Charlene]

Oh that's okay sweetie
I'll just wait patiently
So how's business

[Calvin]

We're actually expanding to nearby cities
We bought 'em on the cheap
We just have to make 'em look pretty

[Charlene]

Good for you!
Aren't you the little fixer-upper
Well I'm sure you'll be fine Calvin
You're sweeter than cherry pie

[...]

It was true
Jefe knew business
We'd use the restaurants as a front
And mass produce jellies in the kitchens

For food would take second place
When it came to fulfilling needs
It was just a reasonable excuse
To get high off Mestuffstuffstoplease's jellies

(Calvin)

Yeah, I'm excited
Well I gotta let you go
It's almost interview time

[Charlene]

Haha, alright sweetie
I'll talk to you later

[...]

And he wasn't lying
It was indeed coming up
Plus he hated when conversation lingered
And as a kid it made him blush

He would flee to the office
And check his jelly list
He needed to order them appropriately
Something that would make sense

Blueberry Blush
Gucci Grape
Raspberry Smack
Key Lime Haze
Monkey Jam
Apple Maze

It would hopefully just be the first
Of many jelly collections
But what would he call this one
How about CoCina's Passions

There was a knock on the door
And the Caker and Chef came in
There were some visitors outside
And they were eager to begin

[...]

The first interview they would see
Was a woman named Bradaline
She exhibited both charm and grace
And her hair was as big as her face

She was as pretty as could be
And she was measured to a T
But there was something a little off
Though she was polished and well-thought

He couldn't put his finger on it
Then he recognized her personage
She was a star on late-night TV
Often seen on Bravo or MTV

But before Mestuffstuffstoplease could speak
Chef opened up with his questioning
He went through scenarios one would see
Working around people and pastry treats

Her answers were quite succinct
And she answered effectively
But there was something underneath
So he asked for enlightening

[Mestuffstuffstoplease]

I'm sorry for interrupting
But I think you're hiding something
Are you a celebrity on TV
I think I've seen you recently

(...)

Her answer he could trust
Because she blushed in earnestness
But she denied the reality
Though she could see the possibility

After all the questions
The three excused her from the session
They thanked her for attending
And would notify her of their decision

They deliberated once she left
And they formed hypotheses
Though she was capable for what they need
She was too focused on how she's seen

So next up on the list
Was a woman who was quite thick
And though she was sweeter than pastries
She was slower than molasses

And that was fine by Mestuffstoplease
Since he knew a bit of human psychology
For he wrote a paper on obesity
During his time in university

And he understood the absence
And what we use to fill the void
And though it's good to own a jelly pump
Some use them as recklessly as toys

But they really liked what they heard
And she seemed like an anomaly
Certainly not one for liberal conversation
Which is too bad for Froster Felicity

Next up they had a single mother
And she said she was in dire need
She would be great for her employer
Because she knew she had to be

Finally there was a college student
Much like Froster Felicity
Given their opinions and drug usage
They're not quite the ideal employees

Plus they're willing to try the newish
And they're freed up financially
And they're connected and influenced
So they're never reluctant to quit and leave

So they chose the thickset woman
For all she really had to do was stand
She wasn't expected to keep it moving
Unless it was the dough between her hands

And they chose the single mother
For they'd work well together as a team
She'd mind her business and her manners
And hopefully her responsibilities

But one thing was for certain
There'd be no more deviancy
No more talk of strapless strap-ons
Starring Froster Felicity
